James wandered out into the Courtyard, his book bag slug over his shoulder, his tie untied, and his hair, which would never lie flat, in a mess as usual. An enormous fountain stood at the center of the courtyard, propelling its magically colored water into the air. Bored, James went to a ledge by the fountain, sat down, and opened a book.

Vala was walking along the undercover edge of the courtyard when she spotted a boy sitting at the fountain. With quick and silent steps she walked over, her blue-green robes flowing out behind her. "You alright?" she asked.

James looked up at the woman standing there, lowering his book in order to look up at her as he did so.
"Yeah." He said, glad for a reason to stop studying. "Are you the a 7th year?" He asked without hesistation. He was a bold wizard, and wasn't afraid of asking blunt questions, as his father and mother had always encouraged it.

Vala chuckled slightly and sat down beside him. It was a common misconception seeming as she was only 48 with the appearance of being 21. "Not exactly", she said with a warm smile. "I'm the headmistress".

"Oh." James said in mild surprise. "Forgive me, Madame Headmistress." He corrected himself, making a mock bow while sitting down. He straightened up with a characteristic manic grin on his face.

Vala laughed slightly. "Please... call my Vala", she said returning his bow with a nod of her head. "And whom might you be young man?"

"On honor to meet you, Vala." James corrected himself yet again. "I'm James," he continued, "the one and only James."

"Ah yes.... James Potter", Vala said with a smile. "If I am not mistaken". She chuckled slightly at his expression. "Dont worry.... I'm not going to go blabbing and giddy", she assured him. "I knew your father.... briefly but I knew him. He was very brave... I'm sure there is a fair bit of him in you".
She tilted her head, her raven coloured hair falling over her shoulder. "Looks for starters".
